Feathers & Brushes
Art Lingren is keeping busy these days. Following his book on Harry Lemire, Art teamed up with artist Diane Michelin to produce Feathers & Brushes, a combination of Art's essay's from a lifetime of fly fishing and Diane's stunning artwork.
Bill McMillan had this to say of the book:
"Diane Michelin and Art Lingren have combined to create an artistically exquisite book: Feathers and Brushes, Through the Eyes of Two Passionate Fly
Fishers. The water color paintings by Michelin portray rivers, flies, fly fishers, and the salmonids we seek with a remarkable range of subject matter. They pick up the bond of human companionship at all ages that fly fishing can result in, the facial emotions of joy on release of a fish, and the capture of the varied lighting of river scenes perfectly portrays what draws fly fishers to their waters of choice at differing seasons. Many of these paintings give the feeling one can step right into them – be there in that moment. And Lingren’s memories, now in later life, just as exquisitely take us into the moments these paintings portray as his life time of fly fishing is revealed on the page opposite each painting. This is one of those masterpieces that brings to mind the artistic marvels of Ralph Wahl’s One Man’s Steelhead Shangri-La, and Come Wade the River from an earlier era. But rather than black and white photographs, it is the water color paintings that draw one to each new page with anticipation and to read the matching memory of fly fishing through the eyes of one of British Columbia’s masters."
